Garbage Locator App
A Citizens Initiative by the students of DJ Sanghvi College of Engineering
“We must not tolerate the indignity of homes without toilets and public spaces littered with garbage.” Narendra Modi, 2014
The Prime Minister in order to spread awareness about the benefits of a clean India, and the role every citizen can play in bringing this to fruition. Inspired by this vision, and a drive to make a genuine contribution to society, the students of DJSCE have started this application, which in conjunction with the BMC aims to clean Mumbai, one street at a time.
A 6-7 day demo was held in the vile parle region. The BMC officials’ feedback for the same was very positive. They said our app made their job easier, especially when it came to finding the clusters of garbage. It helps locate garbage clusters very effectively and makes the cleaning process easier and faster. This results in cleaners being directly sent to specific location to clean the area with garbage, which also saves time. During the course of the demo, we were given additional feedback based on which we made enhancements to the features of the app.
The image on the right shows the count of complaints we received. Green marker indicates complaints which were resolved. We have had a 95% success rate in our pilot project and we would like to mirror same numbers across the whole of Mumbai
The app will be launched on the play store in the first week of April.
Initially the application will start to function only in the K-West ward, Andheri. Although anyone and everyone can download the application only complaints in the designated area will be escalated.
BMC will then evaluate the success of the trial run, suggest changes(if any) and launch it on a city wide basis.
